A12 Road Closures Delayed: Ipswich Town Match Causes Traffic Chaos (2025)

Imagine this: You're on your way home, tired after a long day, only to find your usual route blocked due to roadworks. But wait, there's a twist!

Overnight improvements on the A12 southbound, a crucial road for many, have been rescheduled. Why? Because of an Ipswich Town football match!

National Highways is currently hard at work between junction 33 (Copdock Interchange, near Ipswich) and junctions 32b and 32a (near Capel St Mary). These works, which started on Monday, are scheduled every night until Friday, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM GMT.

However, due to the Ipswich Town versus Watford match at Portman Road, the full road closure will now begin at 10:30 PM. Simon Amor from National Highways explained, "We are aware traffic will be busy in light of the Ipswich Town match and have delayed full closure of the road to 10:30 PM."

He added, "Closures of the road are for essential maintenance and fully signed diversions will be in place. We appreciate motorists' continued patience whilst we carry out the work."

National Highways' plan involves resurfacing the road, refreshing road markings, and replacing worn-out studs. This is all to ensure a smoother and safer journey for everyone.

But here's where it gets interesting... Do you think the timing of roadworks should always accommodate major events like football matches? What other factors should be considered when planning these essential maintenance projects? Share your thoughts below!
